Appropriate Adult Services

DSCP Services have highly trained workers to function as Appropriate Adults who support young people during interviews under PACE, voluntary statements, victim and witness interviews. We also have trained appropriate adult support for Age Assessment interviews. The role of our Appropriate Adults is to offer advice and support, in line with legislation; to facilitate effective communication assessing social workers) and the child / young person (interviewee) in custody, so that they understand their rights, their circumstances and the procedure relating to their circumstances. We act to ensure the welfare of each child / young person is safeguarded throughout their time in police custody or during an age assessment.

The role of our Appropriate Adult is different to that of a solicitor, and we do not give legal advice.
